On Wednesday, March 26, 2014 the University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Science held its first ever photographic art exhibit and silent auction in the Davidson Math and Science Center. The event, titled “Just One More Shot: Images of Iconic Nevada Wildlife and Scenery,” was made possible through the generous donations from John and Patricia King, who both hold degrees in biology from the University of Nevada, Reno. The Kings donated 85 photos for the exhibit and silent auction, proceeds of the auction will fund biology scholarships in the College of Science.
The event was a huge success. Before the silent auction took place, both John and Patricia King said a few words to the guests in the Nell J. Redfield Foundation Auditorium, they talked about their photography and how important it is for them to give back to the University that provided them with so much.
After the talk everyone was invited up to the third floor to view the artwork and place bids on their favorite pieces.
Also in attendance that night was Zeb Hogan, host of National Geographic’s, Monster Fish series and a research assistant professor in the University’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science.
All in all, the night was really fun, informational and a big success as over 70 photos were auctioned off, raising over $10,000 for biology scholarships.
It was a blast for me to get to know John and Patricia King better and talk with them about photography. They both have a strong passion for documenting their environment and are especially fond of the opportunities the state of Nevada provides.
